New Year's Eve Soiree

Jennifer had put in extra overtime for this - though Set himself had arranged the servers, made of sand and storm - but the stage was set. The glossy black bar was stocked fully with any kind of alcohol you could ever desire, including a selection of Egyptian microbrews. To the right of it, the dessert bar - staffed by two lithe, sloe-eyed girls - has any sweet you might desire, from a chocolate fountain to creme brulee to a dense raspberry torte.

There are the low couches by the windows, where the waiters pass with French champagne and canapes regularly, and for those who don't mind the chill, there are the vast decks just outside, where you can appreciate the sight of New York on this night, or...possibly find some privacy for that New Year's kiss.

Selene nodded her head, another piece of torte melting in her mouth. "Mmhmm. I'm often around doing errands when I'm not in the office..."

She smiled a little as she looked at him. "You should have said hello... It would be nice to see everyone outside of parties more often."

Set grinned. "Maybe I'll do that next time," he said. "We do have this tendency to only socialize in large groups."

"It's a rather amusing quirk we seem to have... I'll look forward to it, then..."

Selene brushed her hair over her shoulder and smiled. "How have you been, aside from acquiring lovely lofts and spending your time in New York?"

"Oh, very well, my dear. Business is booming." He smiled as he retrieved champagne from a passing waiter and handed a flute to her. "And you? I've heard romance is in the air."

Well, she couldn't exactly say no to champagne. Selene accepted the flute and raised it to him in a sort of toast. "I'm pleased to hear business is going lovely for you..."

She took a sip of the drink just in time for his comment on romance. She choked a little, but smiled as she swallowed the drink completely. "I see that news travels quickly," she mused, trying to hide her blush. "You may have heard correctly... But I suppose the question must really be, when is that ever news when it comes to me?"

She knew she fell in love quickly... Nearly all the time she was lining up another suitor.... But this time, she'd never admit out loud (at least not anytime soon), this time was different... No matter how much she told herself it wasn't.

Set laughed. "Perhaps you do fall in love often, my dear, but that's hardly bad. And news always travels quickly among us. We're incurable gossips." He said the last in a blithe tone, and smiled.

"Eros does have a habit of gossiping, doesn't he?" Selene smiled slightly, but was still unable to hide her blush. "Now I just have to wonder how many he's told... How many know..."

"Oh, I didn't hear from Eros," Set said lightly, and took a sip of champagne. "But we do live in the same city, my dear."

Selene's eyebrows raised. "You've taken to spying on me now, dear?" she laughed into her champagne.

"Not at all," Set said as he straightened - as much as he'd like to spend the evening at the dessert bar, he did have other guests - and he smiled. "I fear I was doing some last minute shopping at Saks on a particular day. Do enjoy the torte, darling," he said as he bent over her hand. "And the rest as well."

Selene flushed a bit more. "Oh, that day..."

She raised her plate in a slight salute. "Thank you, I will do just that... And happy new year to you, Set."
