New Year's Eve Soiree

Jennifer had put in extra overtime for this - though Set himself had arranged the servers, made of sand and storm - but the stage was set. The glossy black bar was stocked fully with any kind of alcohol you could ever desire, including a selection of Egyptian microbrews. To the right of it, the dessert bar - staffed by two lithe, sloe-eyed girls - has any sweet you might desire, from a chocolate fountain to creme brulee to a dense raspberry torte.

There are the low couches by the windows, where the waiters pass with French champagne and canapes regularly, and for those who don't mind the chill, there are the vast decks just outside, where you can appreciate the sight of New York on this night, or...possibly find some privacy for that New Year's kiss.

He gives her a downright charming smile with a small shrug of his shoulders. "I have positively no idea."

Eros laughs and presses a kiss to his cheek. "I believe we need to toast to that." She collects two glasses of Set's excellent champagne from the passing server and holds one out. "To the new year, a playground full of promise."

He clinks his champagne flute to hers with an expression that speaks nothing short of amusement before he sips the lovely liquid.
"My my I had forgotten how genuinely amazing the alcohol was when Egyptian deities are around."

That gets him a laugh, full and musical and causing more than one head to turn. "Set has thrown a beautiful event," Eros agrees, looking around at the luxurious penthouse and the sparkling cityscape beyond the windows.

"I've thanked him for having us. I don't believe he gets on well with his own family." Though that hadn't seemed to stop Horus or Sakhmet from appearing, it would explain why there were so few Egyptians present.

Morpheus nodded absently as he glanced over the city. "Ah well when you have centuries of being stuck with them you can hardly expect it all to be good blood."

"So true," Eros murmured, thinking of the various family members she'd shared bad blood with over the centuries. Apollo was somewhere holding court, but they'd made their peace, it seemed, and there was some strange tentative truce holding between Dionysus and Eros.

She glanced speculatively at Morpheus as he watched the city. "And how has your time among the mortals been recently?"

"Jaded at best. But then I was the brilliant one who decided a foray into being a dream slash familial psychologist would be a brilliant idea." He loved his mortal job, he really truly did but good lord some of the mortals who came into his office were some unhappy little creatures.

"My poor dear," she replied with a fond smile and lowered her voice conspiratorially. "Do you want to vent? Go on, you can if you like, I won't breathe a word."

"Oh darling I'm hardly one to let loose. No matter how very tempting it is. Though, " He lifts a finger as if remembering something and smiles wickedly at Eros- "I think you could find some prime love suspects at my office. If you'd be up to a little challenge of course."

"Not generally, but if you can't vent at the new year, when can you?" But her eyes lit, intrigued, at that new wrinkle, and she leaned against him with an anticipatory smile. "Oh, I'm always up for a challenge. Do tell, darling."

"There's a young woman called Hannah near my office who, other then having quite the lucrative future in bio mechanics according to the fates goes to the coffee shop everyday to meet a client of mine named Jackson.

Good man, a little odd and has some slight PTSD from Iraq, but is completely and entirely oblivious to the fact that there is a small grease stained woman madly in love with him. It's all very old class romance boy meets girl. Then of course there are the Franello brothers. Italian twins both in love with the same woman and have been fighting for her since they were in diapers."

Eros looked delighted. "You certainly know how to sweet-talk a lady," she murmured, tapping a finger against her chin as she immediately considered these new and exciting opportunities. "Perhaps I ought to stop by the coffee shop and accidentally bump into them. Wouldn't take more than a scratch. And the Franello brothers, that's an interesting one..."

"I do know you'll find a way around it, though in the old days it could have all been solved by sending one of them off to be a pirate or a gladiator."

"Mm, everything was simpler then," Eros agreed, taking a sip from her glass. "Perhaps someone new will need to walk into their...hmm. Auto-shop, is it? Car trouble can happen so suddenly."

Grinning Morpheus looped an arm around her waist and nodded in a serious manner. "Oh such things do happen everyday."

Eros laughed happily, leaning up to kiss Morpheus' cheek, near the corner of his lips. "What a marvelous New Year's gift, darling. I'm already looking forward to it. Thank you."

"My pleasure Eros. I may be a cranky deity but you don't work in the dream business for so long without seeing how important love is to the mortals and Gods alike."

Eros ran her fingers down his sleek jacket. "I don't think you're cranky at all," she said firmly, with a playful smile, "and you'd need to work rather hard to convince me otherwise. You're serious, but that's only part of the appeal."

She did think he was gorgeous, but that was certainly nothing new.

"Mmmm you flatter me Eros. I work far too much, see to much and think too much to be considered much else. Quiet and serene perhaps, but cranky is usually what I'm told."

Eros smiled quietly and brushed her lips against his throat before resting her head against his shoulder. "Perhaps you need a quiet night off."

Humming in a content manner his fingers easily moved into making a circular motion against her lower back. "I do like the sound of that-but I would enjoy a bit of company."

She shifted into his fingers just a bit, melting against him, and her soft laugh drifted against his throat. "I'd be delighted, Dreamer. Lead the way?"

Smirking he wrapped his a little tighter around her and soon the two were enveloped in a dream like silvery mist and left nothing but a ghostly smell of early morning fall as he ported them to his condo in the heart of New York city.
